The Best DIY Solutions for cleaning laminate floor.
Solution 1: Vinegar + Rubbing Alcohol+ Dish Soap
You can use this formula for general cleaning:
- Start by adding 1 and a half cups of warm water to your spray bottle.
- Add a ¼ (quarter) cup of white vinegar
- Add 1/8th of a cup of rubbing alcohol
- Add 1/8th of a teaspoon of dish soap
- Add 5-10 drops of essential oil (optional)
Shake the contents of the spray bottle vigorously and thoroughly to ensure the ingredients mix and integrate fully.
To clean your floor using this solution, follow these steps:
- Before you start cleaning sweep or vacuum the floor to clear loose dirt.
- Hold the spray bottle about 12-18 inches above the floor and lightly spray the homemade solution onto a small section of the laminate floor. Be cautious not to oversaturate; a light misting is sufficient.
- Immediately after spraying, use a soft microfiber mop or cloth to wipe the misted area. Make sure to use a gentle, non-abrasive cloth or mop to avoid scratching the laminate surface.
- Repeat the spraying and wiping process, working in small sections, until you’ve cleaned the entire floor.
- For stubborn spots or stains, apply a bit more solution and gently rub with the cloth or mop
- After cleaning, thoroughly dry the floor. Excess moisture can damage the laminate over time. Use a dry, clean microfiber cloth to remove any remaining moisture, leaving your laminate floor clean and shiny.
Solution 2: Vinegar+ rubbing alcohol
- Start by adding 1 cup of water in a bottle
- Add ½ cup of vinegar
- Add ½ cup of rubbing alcohol
- Add 10 drops of essential oil
Here are the basic steps to clean laminate floor using this formula:
- Ensure the area is clean of dust and loose dirt.
- Light spray as you clean the floor
- For stained areas , add more of the solution.
Solution 3: lemon juice + water
- Start by pouring one part lemon juice into the spray bottle. This can be freshly squeezed lemon juice or store-bought lemon juice.
- Add two parts water to the lemon juice in the spray bottle. For example, if you used one cup of lemon juice, add two cups of water
- Secure the cap on your spray bottle and shake the contents vigorously
- Repeat the cleaning process outlined in the previous section.
DIY solution for cleaning laminate floor without vinegar
While vinegar is a popular ingredient in many DIY cleaning solutions, you might prefer to avoid it due to its strong smell or because it can be harsh on certain surfaces over time.
Thankfully, there are effective alternatives for cleaning your laminate floors without vinegar. Here’s a simple and vinegar-free DIY laminate floor cleaner recipe:
Ingredients
- 2 cups of warm water
- 1/2 cup of rubbing alcohol
- 1/4 cup of mild liquid dish soap
- 5-10 drops of essential oil (optional, for a pleasant scent)
- A clean spray bottle
- A soft microfiber mop or cloth
Steps you need to follow:
- Begin by adding 2 cups of warm water. The warm water helps dissolve the soap and dirt more effectively.
- Next, add 1/2 cup of rubbing alcohol. Rubbing alcohol is an excellent alternative to vinegar for its cleaning and disinfecting properties without the vinegar scent.
- Add 1/4 cup of mild liquid dish soap. Ensure that the dish soap is gentle and doesn’t contain harsh chemicals.
- Optionally, add 5-10 drops of your preferred essential oil for a pleasant fragrance. Essential oils like lavender, lemon, or tea tree can add a refreshing scent to your cleaning solution.
- Shake the content of the bottle vigorously.
